Description

This class will provide an overview of DC restaurants, beginning with the opening of the first “true” restaurants in the 1820s, continuing through the Civil War and the excesses of the Gilded Age, the rise of informal eateries in the early 20th century, and the proliferation of ethnic cuisine in the postwar years. There will also be special mention of DC’s rich seafood restaurant history—think Hogate’s and Flagship—and other local casual favorites, including the Hot Shoppes and Little Tavern.
