Dorothy Fields, daughter of noted vaudevillian Lew Fields and sister of writer Herbert Fields, was one of few women in the male-dominated Broadway world. From the late 1920’s into the 1970’s, she created lyrics to over 400 songs for both Broadway and film, and was highly esteemed as a Broadway musical script writer. Dorothy Fields worked with the best, collaborating with Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern and Cy Coleman.
