Julianne Mangin will discuss her mother’s French-Canadian ancestors, several of whom were mentally ill and committed to a state hospital. After decades of ignoring her mother’s attempts at genealogy, she decided to fact-check the family history on her own. In the process, she upended many of the stories she had heard all her life.
