Description
Women of every class and status were affected by the events that led to the Revolutionary War. Widows of soldiers often spent years trying to get federal and state pensions from their husbands’ service to help provide for themselves and their children. In a few cases, women who had disguised themselves as men to fight in the war tried to claim a pension for themselves. This lecture will make extensive use of records from the National Archives.
