Friedrich Hegel became the most important and influential philosopher of the 19th century with a view not many people actually understood. We will examine his view that the world is God figuring out his own identity and how this led to a range of reactions from Arthur Schopenhauer’s pessimism to Karl Marx’s dialectical materialism.
