Description

During their 25-year partnership, playwright and lyricist William S. Gilbert and composer Arthur Sullivan collaborated on 14 comic operas, including 1879’s “The Pirates of Penzance,” scheduled for a new Broadway revival in the spring of 2025. G&S famously combined great music with inspired lyrics, biting wit and ridiculous plots to create works that continue to delight more than a century later. Julie Kurzava will provide insight into this less than perfect partnership and discuss their influence on American musical theater.
