Description

Hans Holbein was originally from Augsburg, Germany. After working in Basel, he eventually found a home (and relative religious freedom) in Henry VIII’s England. As court artist to the king, Holbein designed jewelry, plate, banners and entertainments as well as portraits. His portraits of prospective brides for the oft-married king are his best-known paintings today. His career was cut short probably by the plague. This class is offered now to coincide with a Holbein exhibition at the Morgan Library in New York—the first ever in North America.
