Description
(This is a discussion-based program with brief advance reading.)
As schoolchildren, many of us learned that Abraham Lincoln was the Great Emancipator. In recent years, though, this reputation has come under attack, as scholars have questioned how much credit Lincoln deserves for ending slavery.
Prior to the session, we will email you two essays that help to inform this debate over Lincoln’s legacy. Dr. Brunsman will lead a discussion about the ideas expressed in the readings. The goal will be to get the group involved in asking and exploring questions, rather than coming to a conclusion or reaching consensus. Limit: 20
Articles will be sent to registered participants a week in advance. NOTE: if you register less than 7 days before the class, please send an email to [email protected] to have the articles sent to you.
