Description
Lillian Hardin (second of three “Mrs. Louis Armstrongs”) and Mary Lou Williams were gifted pianists and composers who were underappreciated during their times, as well as today. There’s no Satchmo without Lil – she made him into the jazz hero we know. Mary Lou Williams was a pioneer in swing, be-bop, and much of modern jazz. We’ll listen to music written and performed by them, as well as discuss how their careers became secondary to that of men in their lives.
