Description

Mary Magdalene is among the most famous of women, yet little is actually known about her. Two common depictions of Mary, as a reformed prostitute or Jesus’ wife, are now both known to be false.  But then who was she? Might she have been an early advocate for gender equality? What are the Gnostic Gospels, and can their depiction of Mary be accepted?  What happened in 2016 that raised Mary Magdalen’s stature? This talk by Dr. Philip Pryde is historical and thought-provoking in nature, not evangelical. It will be an objective review based on analyses by biblical historians and others, that can help uncover what might be reasonably inferred about her.
