Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite won all the major film awards in 2020, giving western audiences exposure to Korean cinema. But did you know that Korea has been producing some of the most innovative and compelling cinema for the past twenty years? This lecture will give an overview of contemporary Korean cinema, starting with Parasite and looking at other provocative examples. (Participants will enjoy the class most if they have seen Parasite, which can be accessed for a small fee on streaming services such as Amazon Prime, Google Play, and YouTube.)
