Description

Ana-Maria Rizzuto is an educator and psychoanalyst who offers an alternative to Freud’s understanding of religion. Whereas Freud postulated that belief in God is based on a child’s idea of the father, Rizzuto argues that the God representation draws from a variety of sources and is a major element in the fabric of one’s view of self, others, and the world. Her work has enriched the practice of psychoanalysis and psychotherapy by asserting the coexistence of psychoanalysis and religion in the therapeutic setting.  This presentation will look at the life and ideas of Ana-Marie Rizutto and their influence on psychoanalysis.
