Description

Peter, Paul and Mary’s debut album topped the Billboard charts. Heirs to the legacy of the Weavers, they performed If I Had a Hammer at the March on Washington, recorded traditional and original material and popularized songs written by up-and-coming songwriters like Dylan and John Denver. Richie Havens’ African/Native American roots, natural charisma and unique, highly percussive guitar playing added a distinctive flavor to the 1960’s Folk Revival. Havens’ improvised performance of Freedom at Woodstock catapulted him into international renown.
