Description

This session moves beyond the “what” to the “how” of healing and holistic support. We will analyze the “invisible baggage” that newcomers and multilingual students carry—such as the “cognitive hijacking” caused by the constant fear of family separation—and how these stressors directly impede academic growth.

Participants will explore the unique mental health challenges facing these populations and gain practical, trauma-responsive strategies to foster well-being in our schools. We will also bridge the gap between school and community by highlighting essential immigration-related resources and services available through MCPS and our community partners.

This session will be taught by the MCPS International Enrollment and Admission Office in collaboration with Oasis.

*This is a virtual class; however, you may opt to come to Oasis in-person and watch this session on the large screen in our classroom. Registration required for both virtual and in-person.
