Description

(This is a discussion-based class with brief advance reading.)

John Adams, America’s second president, is often overlooked in discussions of the country’s founders. Yet, few did more to contribute to American independence, especially when taking into account the significant efforts of Abigail Adams. This session will analyze America’s original power couple and how they helped to shape the early United States, all while they debated the proper role for women in the new republic. George Washington University Professor Denver Brunsman will lead a conversation about ideas expressed in an e-mailed prereading. The goal will be to get the group involved in asking questions and exploring issues.

Articles will be sent to registered participants a week in advance.  NOTE:  if you register less than 7 days before the class, please send an email to [email protected] to have the articles sent to you.
