Description
The Urban Revolution is the third transformation in the human career. 5500 years ago in Mesopotamia, thousands of farmers abandoned their villages and built the first cities in the history of the world. The Urban Revolution describes the transformation from a village-farming society to an urban, state-level society. The lecture will describe the causes of this transformation and the innovations that were implemented to develop agrarian states that would continue for 5300 years until the fourth transformation, the Industrial Revolution. For other classes in the Revolution series, see class #658 and #681.
