Description
President-elect Biden has called Russia the “biggest threat” to the United States. The class will explore this statement for accuracy and relevance, examining Biden’s national security team and suggesting policy recommendations for the new administration. We need to understand the reasons for the new Cold War that now dominates the Russian-American relationship, and look for areas of mutual agreement between Washington and Moscow that could permit a revival of bilateral agreements. The area of arms control and disarmament will be highlighted in view of the success between the two superpowers in the 1970s and 1980s that led to the period of detente in the administrations of Richard M. Nixon and Ronald Reagan.
