This fall, the Oasis History Café Discussion will focus on films and musicals of the American Revolution with Professor Denver Brunsman of George Washington University. In this session, Professor Brunsman will discuss the film adaptation of the Broadway musical 1776 (1972). The musical is an offbeat yet intelligent portrait of the anguishing decision for American independence by the Continental Congress in the late spring and summer of 1776. Prior to the session, we will email you brief reading to do before the meeting. If possible, we also encourage you to watch 1776 before the session, but it is not required (the film is available to rent/stream on Amazon, Apple TV, and other providers). Rather than present a traditional lecture, Professor Brunsman will lead a conversation that explores the ideas and factual basis of 1776.

This class is for students with PC, not Mac, formats. Your computer is susceptible to multiple threats.  Some types of malware can wipe out all the data on your computer and render it inoperable.  Other malware can track your keystrokes and report sensitive information to malware creators. You'll learn how you can protect yourself from malware, and what the best anti-malware products are.  11.4 billion usernames and passwords have been stolen by hackers.  Learn how to determine whether yours is one of them, and what you can do about it.   Almost all of us "give away" large amounts of information about ourselves to Google, Facebook, Microsoft, and Apple.  Learn where you can see the information you've given away to these companies, and what you can do about it.  You will also learn a few tips to ensure you surf the web safely.  This is a lecture/demonstration computer class and is not hands-on.
